Eritrean nationals residing in the US, UK, Germany, Italy and the Republic of Sudan conducted different activities in connection with March 8, International Women’s Day.
Asmara, 09 February 2017- Eritrean nationals residing in the US, UK, Germany, Italy and the Republic of Sudan conducted different activities in connection with March 8, International Women’s Day.
At the event held in Los Angeles, the Chairwoman of the union branch in the South West of the US, Ms. Haddas Goitom pointed out that the Eritrean women have ensured their right through practical partaking in the armed struggle for independence, safeguarding the national sovereignty as well as in the national development endeavors.
The Eritrean nationals residing in Phoenix also celebrated the International Women’s Day with different activities depicting the role of Eritrean women in the history of struggle for independence and national sovereignty as well as in the national development programs.
In the same vein, the Charge d’Affairs at the Eritrean Embassy in the US, Mr. Berhane Gebrehiwet conducted seminar for Eritrean nationals residing in Seattle on the objective situation in the homeland and the role of Eritreans in the Diaspora.
Likewise, Eritrean nationals residing in Manchester, the UK, celebrated International Women’s Day under the theme “Women: Guarantors of Sovereignty and Development”.
At the celebration conducted in Milano, Italy, Ms. Nigisti Tsegai, chairwoman of the union branch in Europe, presented the official message of the National Union of Eritrean Women and called on women to bequeath the history of Eritrean women to generations and reinforce participation in the national development endeavors.
Moreover, at the celebration held in Juba, South Sudan, in which more than 300 women took part different national associations delivered messages of solidarity.
The Eritrean women residing in Hamburg, Germany, also celebrated March 8 with different activities depicting the day.
In related news, the Eritrean Ambassador to South Africa and Southern African countries, Mr. Saleh Omar conducted seminar to Eritrean nationals residing in Johannesburg.
Ambassador Saleh indicated that Eritreans living inside the country and abroad have demonstrated strong unity and resilience in foiling the external conspiracies against the homeland and that the achievements registered have been the result of that.
The Asmara Community College that was established in 2015 is striving to produce qualified teachers.
Asmara, 09 March 2017- The Asmara Community College that was established in 2015 is striving to produce qualified teachers. The comment was made by Mr. Alem Gebrekal, the director of the college.
Mr. Alem said that currently there are 1150 students enrolled in certificate and diploma program. He further said that previously the college was providing only certificate program and with the upgrading of the college it is providing two years diploma program.
The head of Academic Affairs in the college, Mr. Mokonen Estifanos pointed out that the participation of women students is on the rise and that attests to the growing awareness of the public.
He further noted that the training is provided both in theory and practice and that helps students become quality and competitive teachers.
Reports indicate that the college has so far produced around 11 thousand teachers.

Organizers of the training explained that the theoretical and practical courses that have been offered for 7 months were aimed at empowering the youth to acquired skills in fields of their interest.
Pointing out that the association has been exerting efforts to enhance academic and professional skills of the youth, Mr. Ghirmai Ghebru, head of NUEYS branch in the Southern region, called on the youth to advance their skills through practical implementation in various work areas.
Representative of the graduates on his part explained that the skills they have acquired in the fields of their interest enables them to become highly productive besides being a source of income.
Similarly, 15 youth in Areza sub-zone have been trained in basic computer application.

Asmara, 08 March 2017- March 8, International Women’s Day, was commemorated nationwide today under the theme “Eritrean Woman: Guarantor of Sovereignty and Sustainable Development”.
At the event that was held at the Expo Compound in Asmara, Ms. Alem Belay, Chairwoman of the NUEW branch in the Central region, stated that this year’s International Women’s Day is commemorated at a time in which the Eritrean women are emerging to a new chapter in their history overcoming various harmful practices through concerted actions and strengthening organizational capacity.
Major General Romodan Osman Awleyay, Governor of the Central Region, paid tribute to the Eritrean women’s vital contributions to the success of the armed struggle for independence and safeguarding national sovereignty as well as the decisive role they have been playing in the national development drive. The Governor further called on the Eritrean women to exert level best efforts so as to cope up with the new technological breakthroughs.
At the occasion different awards were handed over to outstanding female students who demonstrated educational excellence.
Similarly, International Women’s Day was commemorated in the Southern region in Kudo-Abur, Emni-Hayli sub-zone, at regional level highlighting the achievements registered in the sectors of health and education.
International Women’s Day was also commemorated in the Southern Red Sea region in which Maj. Gen. Humed Karikare, Commander of the Eritrean Navy and Eastern Command, Ambassador Mohammed-Seid Manaty, Governor of the Southern Red Sea region, village elders and army commanders took part.
Meanwhile, 700 members of NUEW from Asmara and its environs have in connection with March 8 visited development sites in Gahtelay and encouraged nationals that are engaged in the development undertakings.
Pointing out that what they have observed during their visit to Gahatelay is the reflection of the efforts that have been exerted to ensure food security as well as provision of sustainable potable water supply, the visitors recommend that nationals to develop the culture of visiting development sites at their convenient time.
The event in which Ms. Askalu Menkorios, Minister of Tourism and Ms. Tekea Tesfamicael, President of the NUEW, took part was highlighted with cultural shows.

Asmara, 8 March 2017 - A senior Eritrean delegation composed of Foreign Minister Osman Saleh and Presidential Adviser Mr. Yemane Ghebreab met yesterday with First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Serbia, Mr. Ivica Dacic.
This was the first high level visit between the two countries and the Serbian Minister described it as "historic and significant."
The two Ministers and their delegations had warm, extensive and fruitful discussions on their domestic situations, bilateral ties as well as regional and global issues of common concern.
Both sides have agreed to build strong cooperation in trade, investment and education. They also explored priority areas based on the strengths and competitive advantage of each side.
The two sides further agreed to hold regular consultations and to bolster their coordination in international organizations and multilateral forums.
The Serbian DPM and FM accepted the invitation of Minister Osman to visit Eritrea at his earliest convenience.
The Eritrean delegation is in Serbia for a three day visit at the invitation of the Serbian government. It will hold further talks with other Serbian officials and business people.
Confucius Institute, School of Chinese Language and Culture in Eritrea, has launched the construction of a new building.
Asmara, 8 March 2017 - Confucius Institute, School of Chinese Language and Culture in Eritrea, has launched the construction of a new building.
Speaking at the ground breaking event, Mr. Semere Russom, Minister of Education, noted the existing friendly relations between Eritrea and the People’s Republic of China and said that the construction of the new building attests to the close cooperation in the domain of education.
Likewise, the PRC Ambassador to Eritrea, Mr. Yong Zigang, commended the Eritrean Government’s cooperation for the establishment of the Institute and added that the Institute is expected to make due contribution in education and culture.
Dr. Wang Xiaohua, Director of the Confucius Institute, said on his part that the building would be
constructed at 2500 square meters involving an expenditure of 4 million dollars.
Mr. Yemane Gebremeskel, Minister of Information, Mr. Arefaine Berhe, Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Kahsai Gebrehiwet, Minister of Labor and Human Welfare as well as Prof. Tadesse Mehari, Executive Director of National Commission for Higher Education were present on the occasion.

She gave briefing regarding the objective situation in the homeland and the region, the role of women in the armed struggle for independence and the nation-building process, among others. Ms. Tekea called on women to develop their potentials and make due contribution.
Similarly, the Head of the NUEW branch in Anseba region, Ms. Amina Hassen urged women to enhance participation at the work places and thus strive for achieving competence.
Ms. Amna Haj, Administrator of Hagaz sub-zone, on her part noted that seminars are significant in raising women’s awareness and that different programs are being organized for the same cause.
Moreover, the NUEW branch in Gash Barka region celebrated International Women’s Day at regional level in Haikota under the theme “Eritrean Woman: Guarantor of Sovereignty and Development”.

Asmara, 8 March 2017 - Members of the National Union of Eritrean Women (NUEW) from the Ministries of Health and Foreign Affairs have conducted different activities in connection with International Women’s Day.
Members of the NUEW branch in the Ministry of Health donated 200 bed sheets and 100 pajamas to women patients receiving treatment at Edaga-Hamus and Biet-Meka’e hospitals. The chairwoman of the branch, Ms. Elilta Abraha, gave briefing regarding the heroic feats Eritrean women demonstrated and called on the government institutions and the society to strengthen cooperation towards empowering women.
Ms. Amina Nurhusein, Minister of Health, said that the Eritrean women have practically demonstrated their active participation in the nation-building process, safeguarding national sovereignty and national development endeavors. The members also conducted sanitation popular campaign at the Asmara Martyrs Cemetery.
Similarly, the NUEW branch in the Foreign Ministry organized entertainment program to the disabled citizens.
